How to Choose the Right Skills on Your CloudHire Profile

This guide explains how to correctly select and add skills to your CloudHire profile so you can get better job matches, more relevant AI interviews, and higher priority in Smart Apply.

    What this is

This guide explains how to correctly select and add skills to your CloudHire profile so you can get better job matches, more relevant AI interviews, and higher priority in Smart Apply.

Your skill selection is one of the most important inputs on CloudHire. It directly influences:

    • Which jobs CloudHire applies to on your behalf
    • What AI interview questions you receive
    • How recruiters discover and evaluate your profile

    Why it exists

Many candidates struggle to get interviews not because they lack ability, but because their skills are:

    • Too generic
    • Incorrectly listed
    • Not aligned with the roles they want

On CloudHire, skills are the foundation of the entire system. When your skills match in-demand roles:

    • Your profile appears in more recruiter searches
    • You get better job recommendations
    • Smart Apply prioritizes you for more relevant roles
    • AI interview questions match your real expertise

Choosing the right skills significantly increases your chances of landing interviews faster.

    How to use it

Step 1: Think about the role you want

    Before adding skills, decide:

    • What job roles are you targeting?
    • What tools, technologies, or abilities are required for those roles?

Then reverse-engineer the skills needed for that role.

Step 2: Add only skills you are confident in

List skills you can confidently talk about in interviews.

    Good examples:

    • Project Management
    • Python
    • Excel
    • React.js
    • SQL

    Avoid:

    • Vague or generic terms
    • Skills you are not comfortable being interviewed on

Step 3: Be specific, not broad

Specific skills perform better than broad ones.

    Instead of:

    • Customer Service
    • Management

    Use:

    • Zendesk
    • Freshdesk
    • Jira
    • Stakeholder Management

Specific tools and technologies help CloudHire match you more accurately.

Step 4: Mix technical and soft skills

You can (and should) include both:

    • Technical skills (e.g., Python, Excel, SQL)
    • Relevant soft skills (e.g., Communication, Project Coordination)

This gives recruiters a clearer picture of your profile.

Step 5: Add skills in the CloudHire dashboard

    To add or update skills:

    • Go to your CloudHire Dashboard
    • Click Edit Skills
    • Type the skill you want to add
    • Press Enter
    • Click Save

Your new skills will automatically appear on your profile.

You can also add skills under the Certification section, especially for skills you want to be interviewed on.

    Common mistakes

    • Adding too many generic skills
    • Listing skills you cannot explain in an interview
    • Using broad categories instead of tools or technologies
    • Not updating skills when career goals change
    • Forgetting to save after editing

What happens if you don't follow this

If your skills are not chosen carefully:

    • You may get irrelevant job applications
    • AI interview questions may not match your expertise
    • Recruiters may skip your profile
    • Smart Apply effectiveness reduces

Incorrect skills can slow down your job search even if your experience is strong.
